As part of its ongoing stakeholder engagement and preparations for the operationalisation of the Akwa Ibom State electricity market, the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC) on 1 July 2026 paid a strategic working visit to the Management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
The TCN delegation was led by the Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider, Engr. Dr. Oluwagbenga Ajiboye, FNSE, while the AKSERC delegation was led by the Vice Chairman, Dr. Kalu Ukoha. Other members of the AKSERC team included Dr. Valerie Obot, Commissioner, Finance and Corporate Services; Engr. Ubong Etukudoh, Commissioner, Engineering; and Mr. Paul Okon, Commissioner, Economic Regulation.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both organisations to discuss critical transmission issues affecting electricity supply in Akwa Ibom State, with particular emphasis on existing transmission network constraints, ongoing and planned transmission infrastructure upgrades, and the implications of transmission capacity for the development of a competitive and reliable State electricity market.
Discussions also explored strategies for improving system reliability, facilitating timely network expansion to support increasing electricity demand, enhancing operational coordination between the State regulator and the national transmission operator, and ensuring that future investments in transmission infrastructure align with the State’s economic growth aspirations.
Recognising the central role of the transmission network in delivering reliable electricity to consumers, both organisations reaffirmed the importance of sustained collaboration, regular technical engagements, and knowledge sharing in support of Nigeria’s evolving electricity sector under the decentralised market framework established by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Amended) and the Electricity Act, 2023.
AKSERC expressed appreciation to the Management of TCN for the warm reception, openness, and commitment to working closely with the Commission towards ensuring a resilient transmission network capable of supporting improved electricity access, enhanced service delivery, and sustainable economic development in Akwa Ibom State.
